Research Proposal
Studies
show that an estimated 55 million Americans own guns (USA Today). Guns are
mainly used for protection, but are often debated whether if that is a fact. Recently,
America has faced an attack in Las Vegas which is stated to be the biggest mass
shooting in American shooting. As noted, there are other mass shootings that
took place in American history, which sparked the on-going question: Should
guns be legal? This is not an easy question, nor does it have a straight
answer. Although discussed in politics, the media, even in everyday life, no
one can ever find the right answer, or complete it. That is why I made this
proposal to help understand the importance of gun control, why it is being
discussed, and showing both the pros and cons. I also want to discuss the
nature of it, why it was created, the history of the second amendment and its
importance up to this day. This has been a topic that has been debated for
generations, and by creating this paper, the community and I could have a
better understanding behind gun control.
Not
many know the legality of gun control, which is I wanted to make a research
paper about it in the first place. The second amendment has many backgrounds to
it, and is interpreted in many ways. I want to discuss the main arguments, or
in other words the different interpretations of the second amendment, and how
that affects the gun laws. Since the mass shootings have been a common discussion
around political ideas, I want to write more about the way it is being handled
in society. There have been arguments made that although there are mass
shootings, there are also everyday shootings happening in areas that are mainly
populated with minorities. I also want to know how people are easily getting
these weapons, how the law affects this way of getting guns. There are reasons
why people could easily get these weapons, which I want to research to
understand how these mass shootings can happen.
I
will be researching most of the topics that I have discussed already, and from
the research I can help bring an answer, or maybe a stance that all sides can
relate. There are many arguments to write about when making the essay, but most
of them bring a huge part of what makes the gun laws the way they are. By doing
this research, it could possibly help understand why gun violence is a problem
in American society, since it has not been known to happen outside of the
country that often.
