Reflection of Draft of Exploratory Essay
The
first draft felt very intimidating at first because I was very rusty on doing
this type of essay, but I did have some knowledge of what to do. I remembered
back to my freshman year of high school, when my science teacher had to make me
do a thirteen-page essay on a butterfly specie. This helped me to understand
how the essay works, how is it portrayed, and how to write an unbiased essay.
Then came the obstacle that I was afraid of, making a topic. I went to my tutor
in the PAL center as usual, and talked to her about the topic I thought of
since the day it was assigned. She told me that it would be a great idea,
saying that it could be beneficial and it would be accepted by the professor.
So, I sent the email and checked if that topic would be accepted, and it did. I
was excited to write about something that I actually wanted to write about, a
topic that I could relate to since I do play video games often.
Then
came in the writing, which was tiring. I almost felt as if I could not even
write the whole essay since I was becoming very biased, and tried to stop
myself from giving my own opinion. I looked through many articles to help bring
out both the pros and cons of the topic, helping the essay. I found more pros
than cons, which got me worried after the first draft. I was already used to
explaining the evidence, but there were still some points that I could have
explained a little better. I tried to think more about how I could connect each
idea together so that the whole essay can flow nicely, and created an outline
that would help it. I ended up feeling proud of my work, as if I did something
wonderful and beneficial.
