Journal Entry #4

There are many things that have been debated about for technology, and though it is something that can be great in many ways, it does have its flaws. Technology can be beneficial debate. Although it could be bad, it does have some benefits, like helping us connect from various places that before were very difficult to just reach, and helps create a community in it. It could help people to have a voice in any controversial topic that comes up. It also helps give people entertainment in a world that's full of violence and terror. Technology can be great, but it does have its bad side. It can be used to terrorize people, bully, can be used too much to the point that it takes our time away from our families and friends. It can be changed to perform something dangerous or hacked, and is vulnerable in some areas.

Technology in my opinion is something that needs to have a balance. Although there are many bad sides to using technology daily, I believe that it is not something we should take away from society forever. The positive sides to technology outweighs the bad side, mainly because there are always ways to fix the problems. It helps to keep/create communities that would last for long times. It also helps out third world countries keep in touch with families outside the country, and helps keep contact in times of distress.

Journal Entry #6

                 The film Front of the Class demonstrated the lifestyle of a teacher who suffers from Tourette’s syndrome, which is viewed very strictly in America’s society and is very misunderstood, and through that viewpoint they argue that there is more to being a teacher than just school work. It talks about what an educator is, which is a teacher, but who mentors someone through emotional points. This can be seen when Brad helps a child who could not read well, giving his point of view on how reading is for himself, and teaching him through a bond they made. Teachers nowadays have been trying to do this as well, trying to find ways to help students who have different problems that most people have, and focusing to educate those students. This film brings a more brighter side to what teachers can do, and how they could affect the lives of students who go to school for education.          ...

Journal Entry #10

             When reading back Still Separate by Jonothan Kozol, I realized how much segregation still lives inside the United States. Although this is not something that has been never talked about, segregated schools have been known to be an ongoing situation that society has faced throughout many generations. I was mainly surprised with the schools that was mentioned that where in New York City, which is known to be very diverse. It mentioned the school Martin Luther King Jr. school downtown. Although this school is in a pretty safe area and has the name of the man who advocated for equality of races, many parents are still scared to have their kids sent into that school because of its demographic.             Personally, I saw this throughout my high school, being mostly filled with white students.
